Australian Pursuit is a head-to-head autocross competition that is not “wheel-to-wheel.” Two cars are placed on an “oval” facing opposite directions at the “two” start/finish lines (S/F below). The two cars will circle the oval in the same direction but “180° out of phase.” A starter (person) waves a green flag to start the contest. The competitors begin to circle the oval. The leader after three laps is declared the winner. The cars are always one half lap apart. If one car gets within one-quarter lap of the other car, (s)he is declared the winner. If a competitor completely displaces or knocks down a cone, (s)he loses that round. Each competitor must lose twice in order to be eliminated (see brackets diagram below). If the winner of the Second Chance Bracket defeats the winner of the primary bracket then one more “race” is conducted between the two because each, at that point, has one defeat. There are only two “classes,” Up to 2.0 Liters and 2.0 Liters and over. Separate brackets are managed for each class. Competitors are placed in the primary bracket completely at random. Once the competition in the two classes has been completed, “match races” can be conducted. This is akin to “fun runs” but there is no additional charge. |
